Our youth are the future of our alpaca livestock industry. They have enthusiasm, energy, bright futures and an unstoppable quest for knowledge. We as adults have only scratched the surface as we strive to learn about the enchanting alpaca. We will leave our job unfinished but in the capable hands of our future generations. All we need to do is encourage and support the power of youth.
AOBA Youth Committee Mission Statement: To make positive difference in the lives of youth by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth, and success in the alpaca livestock industry.
•To recommend a model for a Youth Show Division within the AOBA Show System. This model is to contain junior halter, fleece and performance shows, a junior judging program with youth leadership training and development.
•To develop programs to incorporate alpaca education and recognition within 4-H, FFA and any other youth livestock group or association.
AOBA and The Suri Network Youth Associations Combine
AOBA is proud to announce The Suri Network has combined its efforts with the AOBA Youth Association (AYA) by merging its’ successful Suri Network Youth Program with the AYA. The AYA has already begun its membership drive and preparation for events to be held at the 2009 AOBA Nationals in Cleveland. This combined synergy of efforts will create the best youth association within any livestock breed association.
Many educational products are being developed by the AOBA Youth Committee to promote and support programs in 4-H, FFA, Grange as well as the AYA. With this merger the Suri Network Donation and Scholarship Program will become part of AYA and thereby expand to the entire alpaca industry. This will increase member opportunities to sponsor and train youth to become the next generation of alpaca breeders. Watch for details on additional ways to become part of the future of the alpaca industry by being involved in youth programs. AOBA would like to thank the members of The Suri Network and the TSN Board of Directors for their hard work in making this combining of programs possible. Be part of the future, start an AYA program in your local affiliate!
